Z32 Japanese Domestic Market Registry
In Japan the Z32 was sold as the Fairlady Z from 1989 to 2000, four years longer than in the US, with grades the US never had: the Version S and Version R from late 1998, a Japan-only convertible and a twin-turbo 2by2. This registry lists the frame numbers in Nissan’s Japanese parts catalog and the JDM Z32s members have added through their XenonZcar forum garage.
Japanese-market cars have a frame number instead of a 17-character VIN, like GCZ32-512345. It’s on the model plate under the bonnet and stamped into the firewall. The letters before Z32 tell you the body and engine: Z32 2-seater, CZ32 2-seater twin turbo, GZ32 2by2, GCZ32 2by2 twin turbo, HZ32 convertible.

JDM Model Code
The model code on the plate under the bonnet decodes like this:
| Position # | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Code | K | R | G | Z32 | J | A | S | H… |
- Blank = standard roof; K = T-bar roof; C = convertible
- R = VG30DE engine family (every JDM Z32; twin turbo shows in the frame number and the S below)
- Blank = 2-seater; G = 2by2
- Model of car: Z32
- J = standard grade (Version S from October 1998); T = Version R (1998–2000); X = 300ZX (1998–2000)
- Blank = 5-speed manual; A = automatic
- Blank = non-turbo; S = twin turbo
- Option and specification letters (not decoded here yet)
JDM Z32 Registry Search
Search by any mix of frame number (or part of one), model code, build month, colors, roof, engine, grade, condition and owner. Nissan’s Japanese parts catalog lists 52,151 Z32 frame numbers (1989–2000); not every car is listed, so a frame number that isn’t found can still be genuine. Owner names and places match only owners who chose to show them.

Owner details are kept up to date from your XenonZcar forum garage. Log in, claim your car once (only one member can hold each car, so nobody else can change your car’s record), and then you can update the owner name, location, condition, mileage, website link, comments and photos any time. Your name and location show publicly only if you choose; otherwise only XenonZcar admins see them. Your car also shows on your forum profile.
- Log in to the XenonZcar forum (or join; it’s free).
- Open My garage, pick Z32 JDM Fairlady Z under “Which Z?” and enter the frame number from the plate in the engine bay, e.g. GCZ32-512345.
- If the car is already in the registry and no other member has it, it goes straight into your garage with the details you entered. Otherwise an admin confirms the claim, usually within a day or two. Sold the car? Transfer it to the buyer from your garage and it stays in the car’s history.
