S30 Registry: 240Z, 260Z and 280Z
Datsun never published a production list for the S30, so this registry is built from what owners have reported. It starts with the cars listed in the Internet Z Car Club’s registers on the Z Car Home Page and in the ZRegistry.org 240Z Registry (mostly 240Zs), and grows as owners add their cars in their XenonZcar forum garage, where an admin checks each claim. Owners keep the details up to date and can add photos.
The S30 has a chassis number instead of a 17-character VIN, like HLS30-123456. It’s on the far left of the dashboard (look through the windshield) and on the firewall above the brake booster. See S30 VIN decoding for what the prefixes mean.

S30 Chassis Number Arrangement
The chassis number is the prefix (which tells the model, engine and market, e.g. HLS30 = left-hand-drive 240Z/280Z, GRLS30 = 260Z 2+2) followed by the sequential production number.
S30 Registry Search
Search by any mix of chassis number (or part of one), model, model year, build month, paint, condition and owner. Enter a whole chassis number on its own to also see what its prefix and serial say about the car, whether or not it’s in the registry yet. Owner names and places match only owners who chose to show them.

The year is worked out from the serial, so cars built near a changeover can go either way. The build month is on the model plate in the engine bay, and the title shows the year the car was sold as.

Is one of these cars yours?
Owner details are kept up to date from your XenonZcar forum garage. Log in, claim your car once (only one member can hold each car, so nobody else can change your car’s record), and then you can update the owner name, location, condition, mileage, website link, comments and photos any time. Your name and location show publicly only if you choose; otherwise only XenonZcar admins see them. Your car also shows on your forum profile.
- Log in to the XenonZcar forum (or join; it’s free).
- Open My garage, pick S30 under “Which Z?” and enter the chassis number from the VIN plate, e.g. HLS30-123456.
- If the car is already in the registry and no other member has it, it goes straight into your garage with the details you entered. Otherwise an admin confirms the claim, usually within a day or two. Sold the car? Transfer it to the buyer from your garage and it stays in the car’s history.
